Manali Strays presents

Before there were dogs,
there were wolves.

Our story begins high in the mountains.

01 / The relationship

We approached one another.

Food.
Fire.
Protection.
Curiosity.

And a relationship began that would change both species. Over time, people shaped dogs—and the human environments in which free-ranging dogs now live.

02 / The dog

For thousands of years, our lives became intertwined.

03 / The world changes

We changed their world.

Villages became roads.
Roads became towns.
Our lives changed.
So did theirs.

04 / The street dog

They are still here.

Living beside us.
Scavenging.
Competing.
Breeding.
Avoiding traffic.
Surviving winter.

We shaped the dog.
We also shaped the world in which the street dog must survive.

05 / One dog

This is not a story about “stray dogs.”
This is one dog.

Injured.
Cold.
Alone.
And needing someone to notice.

We notice.
We act.

06 / Rescue

For some, a stray dog.
For us, a patient.

07 / The hospital

The place where rescue becomes recovery.

Manali Strays works from a converted, single-storey house on approximately 0.25 acres of rented land. It was not originally designed as a veterinary hospital, but it enables extraordinary veterinary care every day.

08 / Prevention

Saving one life matters.
But rescue alone cannot end the cycle.

Vaccinate
Treat
Outreach
Educate

Care for individual animals is inseparable from the long-term work of healthier, safer communities.

09 / Where we work

Care reaches beyond one door.

Programme locations and verified activity details will be added when supplied. This is intentionally not a Google Maps-style interface.

needs to be built.

Today

A converted rented facility.

It is where vital work happens now: treatment, surgery, recovery, and care.

Our vision

A purpose-built Himalayan veterinary and animal-care campus.

Designed around clinical workflow, infection prevention, safe recovery, animal separation, climate resilience, ventilation, drainage, sanitation, and long-term maintainability. The ambition is to meet modern international veterinary facility standards and best practices, adapted to Himalayan conditions.

13 / Return to the Himalayas

For thousands of years, dogs have lived beside us.
Their future still depends on us.

For animals.
For communities.
For a kinder Himalaya.
